Dr. Hans Messner dedicated himself to fostering excellence in blood and marrow transplantation (BMT) in Canada. Dr. Messner was a passionate, groundbreaking leader whose work has saved lives and improved health care for Canadians and for the citizens of the world. His advocacy for a national transplant network resulted in the founding of the Canadian Blood and Marrow Transplant Group.
The CBMTG launched the Hans Messner New Investigator Award in 2018 at the Annual Conference. Our goal is to ensure that Hans’ legacy of ground breaking science, clinical care and research is fostered throughout our membership.
The Hans Messner New Investigator Award provides funds for eligible individuals to undertake research on topics that will have a relevance to blood and marrow transplantation. The primary aim of the grant program is to promote pilot or feasibility studies. Projects which require augmented funding or bridge financing may also be considered. The grant is for a maximum of CAD $30,000 depending on the nature and budget of the project. The grant is offered in 2019 to honour Dr. Hans Messner and his contributions to blood and marrow transplant community.
